These are the practices new heights Chapel prioritizes
Weekly communion
Every week we remember and celebrate the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ in our weekly service during a time of communion. The symbol of broken bread represents the body of Christ, which was broken for us on the cross and the cup of grape juice represents the blood He shed on the cross to seal the New Covenant. We focus a portion of our service each week on the Lord’s Supper and proclaim His death until He returns. All believers are welcome to take the bread and the cup in this portion of the service at New Heights.
Preaching
In our main Worship Service we preach through the Bible, book-by-book and verse-by-verse. Each book of the Bible is Inspired by God who used human authors to write at a certain time in history, in a certain context, to certain people. The preacher’s goal is to explain the meaning of the Bible passage in its historical, literary and cultural context, allowing the meaning of the text of Scripture to determine the emphasis and shape of the message. Several men share the preaching responsibility. Some of New Heights preachers have formal training and some are self-taught, and they all seek to faithfully preach and teach the Word of God accurately and practically. The men who preach at New Heights do so under the oversight of church leadership.
Leadership
New Heights leadership consists of a council of Biblically qualified Pastor-elders. The elders’ primary responsibility is to lead, feed and guard this local church. The elders teach, train teachers, defend against false teaching, pray, counsel, care for needs, oversee the vision and direction of the church and its ministries, and give oversight and guidance to what we do as a local church. The council of elders is made up of men who meet the Biblical qualifications for an Overseer and have been publicly tested and then installed in this office by the existing elders. Each elder is equal in their role of pastor-elder, although their responsibilities may differ. Our deacons are assistants to the elders to help them carry out their Biblical responsibilities in the local church.
Believers baptism
The Lord Jesus commanded all believers to be baptized. We believe that the Bible teaches that Baptism is a symbolic, public declaration of the saving work the Lord Jesus has done in the life of someone who professes to be a believer in Christ. Baptism symbolizes a believer dying with Christ as they go under the water (full immersion), and being united with Him in His resurrection as they come up out of the water. Baptism does not save a person. It is an act of obedience for a person whom the Lord Jesus has already saved and it is a public declaration of their faith in the Lord Jesus and the new life they have in Christ.
Every Member Ministry
New Heights Chapel believes that every member is a vital part of the Body of Christ, gifted by the Holy Spirit and a necessary contributor to the church. All believers have the privilege and right of direct access to God through Jesus Christ without the need for a human priest to interpret or intercede. All Christians are called to serve God full time, regardless of vocation. The ministries of this church depend on volunteers serving one another.
Church Discipline
On occasion a Christian will wander away from the fellowship of other believers and find himself ensnared by sin through ignorance or willful disobedience. It then becomes necessary for the church, and particularly its pastor-elders, to actively seek the repentance and restoration of that Christian by following the Biblical teaching of confronting sin (Matt. 18). As shepherds of the flock, the elders love the sheep and are also held accountable by God for their spiritual welfare, including that of the wandering sheep. As in Jesus’ parable in Luke 15:3-8, it is a time of joy, both in heaven and within the church, when the wandering Christian truly repents.
Giving
Giving is a privilege and a Biblical command. We practice giving for the mission of the Body of Christ and the Church. The Bible teaches us to give liberally and with a cheerful heart to the things of God.
